What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jail Administrator position at American Valor Staffing?
- Oversee the daily operations of the jail facility, including inmate intake, housing, classification, and release.
- Supervise, evaluate, and schedule jail staff including correctional officers, supervisors, medical, food service, and support personnel.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, laws, and standards (e.g., PREA, ACA, NCCHC).
- Develop and implement jail policies, procedures, and protocols that support safety, efficiency, and legal compliance.
- Prepare and manage the jail’s annual budget, including staffing, supplies, and facility maintenance.
- Coordinate staff training programs related to security, emergency response, de-escalation, ethics, and legal standards.
- Conduct internal audits and inspections; respond to audits from external agencies and take corrective action when necessary.
- Manage critical incidents, including lockdowns, inmate disturbances, medical emergencies, or use-of-force incidents.
- Serve as liaison with law enforcement agencies, courts, public defenders, prosecutors, and other community stakeholders.
- Investigate complaints, incidents, and grievances from inmates or staff, ensuring timely resolution.
- Stay current on trends and changes in correctional practices, technologies, and legislation.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Master’s degree in behavioral science or related preferred
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory and/or leadership experience in a correctional or law enforcement setting.
- Strong knowledge of jail operations, jail contracts, inmate rights, and correctional best practices.
- Ability to manage a large team under high-pressure conditions with professionalism, compassion and integrity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in jail management software and recordkeeping systems.
Preferred:
- Certification through a recognized correctional association (e.g., ACA, NIC, AJA)
- Experience managing budgets and facility projects.
- Familiarity with jail accreditation standards.
