Hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Overtime expected and On-call rotation
Key Accountabilities
The successful candidate will maintain, operate, repair and install water utility related items (pipeline, mains, services, fittings, hydrants, valves, meter boxes, etc.) as well Company equipment
Also check for proper metering of water and report any discrepancies between Company records and what is found in the field.
This includes painting, servicing and inspecting fire hydrants; checking mains, hydrants and valves for leaks; cleaning and maintaining trucks and tools, report occupied houses where meters are not
set or vacant/demolished buildings as well as any plumbing in violation of the Company’s Rules and Regulations; may assist Meter Readers, inspect and maintain meters as assigned; may assist
Service Persons, do general structure, building and grounds maintenance as required, and any other duties as assigned by management.
Must take direction while working with a Foreman as well as follow all work and safety rules established by the Company.
Primary location will be the Distribution Center, 1406 Cardinal Court, Urbana. Some travel throughout the Illinois-American Water Company Champaign District service area may be required.
Knowledge/Skills
Strong work ethic, communication, time management, safety consciousness, as well as organizational and team membership skills. Mechanical aptitude, including the ability/knowledge to start up, shut down, and make operating adjustments to all equipment. Must be able to work under variable weather, temperature, noise, and atmospheric conditions, as well as heights and around moving machinery. Must be able to perform and adapt to duties utilizing technology, including Smart Phone, GPS Shot equipment, and electronic order completion. Must be courteous with internal and external contacts. Must be available for after-hours work and other emergencies. A valid Illinois drivers’ license required.
Experience/Education
0-2 years in water industry.
High school degree (or equivalent) required.
CDL/Class A License w/ Air Brakes Endorsement preferred (required within 90 days).
