Primary Role
Assist attorneys by providing clerical and research support including document preparation and review; research, investigations, and fact checking; and hearing/trial preparation.
Key Accountabilities
- Meets with attorneys, clients, and others in the business to discuss assigned work or projects.
- Drafts state specific legal documents including pleadings and motions, affidavits, and discovery; files motions and pleadings according to multi-jurisdictional procedures.
- Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal treatises, orders /decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
- Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
- Organizes and maintains document intensive data and databases using business technology applications; may include data analytics and reporting, data preservation, data collection (independently and through coordination of external and internal resources), physical documents, exhibits and evidence.
- Collaborates with representatives of internal business units, as necessary, to assist in coordinating and providing in-house legal services or improve legal support processes; assist and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
- Assists attorneys with hearing preparation.
- Interprets information responsive to subpoenas and makes recommendations to attorneys for their review.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court/agency pleadings and processes, and other related matters.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and Sharepoint.
Experience/Education
- 2-3 years of legal experience, utility preferred; regulatory experience a plus
- Bachelor’s degree or an associate degree.
- Paralegal Certificate. Paralegal Certificate from an ABA- accredited program is preferred.
