Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Building Trades Casual Maintenance Worker position. The Building Trades Casual Maintenance Worker is a part-time, casual position, without benefits, starting at $17.00/hour. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Building Trades Casual Maintenance Worker will support the efforts of the Building Trades Shop in the maintenance and repair of campus buildings and structures to ensure a safe and secure environment for all campus residents and employees. The position will work closely with Carpenters, Painters and Building Trade Maintenance Workers.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Assist with the set up and prepare for special functions including staging, chairs, putting up banners and signs, etc.
- Move and/or assemble and install contents of offices and bedroom furniture including bookshelves, desks, tables, etc.
- Move and organize building materials and products such as slate, carpet tiles, equipment and related facilities equipment
- Clean up debris, sweep/shovel and rake
- Prepare and paint surfaces for refinishing
Qualifications:
Required
- Good written and verbal communication, organizational, time management and problem solving skills
- An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical/lift test
- Commitment to working with a diverse community
