Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Casual Groundsperson position. The Casual Groundsperson is a part-time, casual position with no benefits, starting at $17.00/hour. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Casual Groundsperson will maintain and care for the College's grounds and structures. The Casual Groundsperson takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Landscape & Grounds Maintenance
- Clean-up of property
- Snow removal
- Raking, lawn mowing, and seasonal outdoor work
- Operation of trucks and other motorized equipment
- Service and inspection of tools and equipment
- Assist other shops within the Facilities Department, which may include moving furniture, books, etc.
Qualifications:
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A valid driver's license and successful credentialing is required in order to operate college vehicles
- 6 months of experience
- Strong customer service, organizational, and time-management skills
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Familiarity in operating motorized equipment, including lawnmowers, weed trimmers, etc.
- Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community
- An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test
