What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Operator I position at Amherst County Government?
Amherst County is looking for an experienced heavy equipment operator who either holds a Class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with an air brake endorsement or who has the ability to qualify for the CDL with six months of hire to join our Public Works team. Experience operating dump trucks, loaders, compactors, and/or bull dozers is required with experience working in a landfill or transfer station setting preferred. This is a full time position with a required Saturday rotation.
Punctuality and attendance are important requirements of the job. The ability to interact in a professional manner with the public and co-workers is essential. Flexibility is key as staff may be called on to fill in on other equipment or in other positions as needed.
The salary range is $47,000 to $49,000 and is dependent on qualifications and experience. Amherst County offers a generous benefit package including participation in the Virginia Retirement System which includes a traditional pension and deferred compensation with employer match, employer paid life and disability insurance, vacation and sick leave, affordable medical, dental and vision insurance, etc.
