About the Project/Clinic:
AMI will be assisting in providing medical staff to the Rosebud IHS Hospital in Rosebud, South Dakota to
help deliver compassionate and quality healthcare to patients in the area.
Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technologist will deliver high-quality, diagnostic laboratory medicine services in
a CLIA-inspected, high-complexity laboratory setting at the Rosebud Service Unit. The technologist will
support outpatient, inpatient, emergency, obstetrical, behavioral health, surgical, and public health
services, and must be adaptable to a variety of laboratory sections and shifts.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide examination for all patients presenting to the Laboratory Department after being
examined by a Health Care Provider.
Independently operate high complexity laboratory equipment to meet the needs of the
department.
Receive patients, conducts proper patient identification x 2, and explains methods of
procedures, special collection instructions and/or criteria to obtain the best possible laboratory
results.
Perform phlebotomy procedures on all age classifications for venipuncture or capillary collection
of samples.
Perform maintenance on all laboratory equipment per manufactures required timeframes as is
consistent with all standard laboratory protocols across the industry.
Maintain a quality control system for the laboratory setting daily to meet all CLIA, HIPAA and
JCAHO standards. This includes using Levey Jennings criteria for acceptance or rejection of
quality control results, utilizing best practices methods for problem solution to ensure systems
are fully operable before any patient testing is performed.
Perform a variety of routine to highly complex tests to meet the needs of the Medical Staff, as
well as the needs of the specialty clinic physicians.
o Areas of Laboratory medicine include: hematology, chemistry, blood banking, urinalysis,
serology, reference testing, and general microbiology.
Assists the Laboratory staff in maintaining records of all functions of this department and keeps
documentation on file as required by HIPAA and CMS/JCAHO.
o This includes any repairs of equipment, surveys, etc.
Abide by the HIPAA and CMS/JCAHO standards.
Notify staff (providers) of any repairs or downtime of equipment.
Maintains accurate records of patient workload examinations on a daily basis.
Must be able to assist in a cardiac arrest situations.
o This will include knowing CPR and recognizing anaphylaxis and respond to other
emergency situations with other staff members. BLS is required by the Indian Health
Service for consideration of a contract candidate.
The Contractor shall provide coverage in the Laboratory Department as needed during staff
vacancies, vacation, sick leave, etc.
The job duties are flexible and subject to change depending upon operational needs.
Education & Experience:
At least 12 months of recent (within last 36 months) experience in a medical-surgical inpatient
setting.
ASCP or equivalent certification required, BLS required.
Proficient in using laboratory information systems, electronic health records (EHR), and standard
office software.
Additional Requirements:
Must pass background checks and meet all immunization and health documentation
requirements (e.g., MMR, Varicella, Td, PPD, Influenza, Hepatitis B).
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
Must be able to work in a safe manner following all safety rules and regulations. Must work as a
team member to improve safety culture and quality.?
