A.BASIC PURPOSE:
Provides personal care assistant services which entails light housekeeping or companion services in the consumer's home environment including housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry; or sitter services and duties that may encompass shopping and escort services and related assignments. All duties are performed in accordance with an established care plan and under the supervision of the Administrator. The Homemaker and Companion observe the consumer and reports observations and documents the same along with all services performed.
B.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs functions generally undertaken by the natural homemaker, including such duties as preparation of meals, laundry, and light housekeeping.
Assists consumer with support activities such as reading, playing games, writing letters and general day-to-day support activities.
Provides consumer transportation by taking shopping or to appointments such as doctor's, hairdresser, etc.
Provides and maintains safe environment for consumer, using equipment safely and properly.
Practices universal precautions in all contacts with consumers.
Maintains the home in the optimum state of cleanliness and safety depending upon the consumer's and caregiver's resources, and performs or assists consumer/family with home maintenance activities as prescribed in the care plan, including but not limited to, light housekeeping (vacuuming, dusting, washing floors, making beds, doing dishes, etc.).
Monitors adequate fluid and nutrition intake of the consumer and prepares meals.
Provides and maintains safe environment for consumer, using equipment safely and properly.
Practices universal precautions in all contacts with consumers.
Respects the autonomy and right to confidentiality of all consumers and families.
Documents care provided and response of consumer/family. Submits documentation in a timely manner.
Performs within the limits of preparation and experience.
Consistently meets or exceeds Anastasia Care Services' established service standards, functioning according to agency policies and procedures, including confidentiality and HIPAA.
Demonstrates the highest degree of consumer awareness by seeking out opportunities to identify and meet the needs of internal and external consumers.
Treats each person as an individual with respect and dignity.
Is receptive to questions and criticism, and willing to offer assistance.
Demonstrates genuine concern and empathy.
Consistently performs all of the above in a friendly, courteous manner.
Maintains accountability for consumer satisfaction.

1.This position requires the Homemaker or Companion to work in a variety of environments (housing styles, cleaning and maintenance, heating and cooling) during visits to consumers in their place of residence.
2.Visual/hearing ability must be sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communication.
3.The Homemaker or Companion must have ability sufficient to ambulate throughout a consumer's home, navigating stairs and other physical barriers typical to private residences.
4.The Homemaker or Companion must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel to and visit in consumer's homes in varying weather and road conditions.
5.Must be able to deal effectively with stress.
E.QUALIFICATIONS:1.Education:
a.High school diploma or equivalent recommended.
2.Must pass Anastasia Care Services' competency exams in core areas of Confidentiality/HIPAA; Communication Skills; Infection Control/Safety; Rights and Responsibilities; and Observation, Reporting and Documentation.
2.Experience:
Minimum age requirement of 18.
Minimum of 1 year of direct consumer care experience recommended with community health/home health experience preferred.
3.Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:
a.Valid driver's license and reliable transportation insured in accordance with
Pennsylvania requirements preferred; alternate travel arrangements will be considered.
b.Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers.
c.Satisfactory criminal background check.
