The Design Engineer will provide design solutions to meet customer or in-house requirements as related to functional and/or cost objectives. This position will work with other engineers or senior engineers to accomplish mutual projects towards specific milestones and goals. This role works collaboratively with global Anderson teams and with all functional areas to achieve goals. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree required.
- 2 years’ minimum experience in the design of components in a manufacturing environment
- Expert level user in Solidworks or other CAD system with proficiency in the use of Mechanical Finite Element Analysis.
- Knowledge of the design of progressive stampings and injection-molded components.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Good communication skills written and verbal.
- Can work successfully in a team and individually.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of contact physics.
- Experience in the design of electromechanical components preferred.
- Working knowledge of worldwide regulatory specifications (i.e. UL, CSA, and IEC) preferred.
Responsibilities
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works under the direct guidance of the Engineering Manager to develop design concepts of new technologies, new products, and modifications of existing products to meet internal and external customer needs as well as worldwide regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate design concepts using Failure Mode Affect Analysis, Finite Elements Analysis and Moldflow modeling software.
- Develop design prototypes, and perform preliminary mechanical and electrical testing of concepts to verify design intent.
- Execute detailed tolerance analysis of designs to insure function, manufacturing capability and quality.
- Liaison with global Manufacturing and Quality departments to develop product and tooling costs, regulatory compliance costs, manufacturing processes, quality plans and inspection criteria for assigned projects.
- Work in conjunction with vendors and quality department to verify first article of new products.
- Setup schedules for testing of first article samples to verify design.
- Provide technical support to corrective action process as assigned.
- Develop and execute experiments to analyze a product failure’s root cause.
- Provide support of engineering team in areas of personal technical concentration.
- Review and interpret customer specifications.
- Participate as a member or leader of a cross-functional team and /or Project Team as required.
