What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Technician position at Andrews Center?

General Description of Position: The Behavior Technician works as part of a treatment team at the Treatment and Learning Center (TLC) for Children which encompasses the Comprehensive Program, Focus Program, and Autism Outreach. The Behavior Technician may be provided with daily coaching by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or Board Certified assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), Lead registered behavior technicians (RBTs)-also referred to as the leadership team. Additionally, feedback may be provided by Senior RBTs and RBTs. The Behavior Technician is charged with implementing individualized applied behavior analysis (ABA) programs and treatment plans for children with social, communicative, academic, adaptive and behavioral challenges. The behavior technician provides direct one on one and small group training using ABA procedures for children with a diagnosis of autism and/or other development delays. These individual may display aggressive, disruptive, non-compliant, and/or self-injurious behavior. Teaching consists of skill acquisition for self-help skills, academic skills, social skills, communication skills, vocational skills, and basic attending skills. The Behavior Technician collects and summarizes data, documents progress, and implements PMAB and prompting methods. Some work will be observed by parents, teachers, and other staff. Training is presented during intense one on one sessions, requiring high levels of energy and enthusiasm maintained throughout the program/therapy day. Monthly continuing education is assigned and provided through Andrews Center through the structured in-service days and on a daily basis through routine observations and monitoring. Training will be videotaped routinely, with and without the Behavior Technician's prior knowledge, and video surveillance is continuous in all treatment areas. The behavior technician receives clinical supervision from the BCBA's and BCaBA's and employment supervision by the program manager. Daily performance coaching and feedback may be provided by a Lead RBT or Senior RBT.

Become Certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) as a Registered Behavior Technician within 90 days of hire date!!!

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of basic ABA principles and verbal behavior. High level of patience. Ability to interact with children in a group and individual setting with the continual guidance of the leadership team. Ability to accept and incorporate constructive criticism and a continual stream of clinical guidance. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to provide exceptional customer service to patients, consumers, co-workers, and the community. Ability to answer questions within job authority and direct other questions to the correct individual. Skilled at using polite, respectful, and pleasant voice and words when interacting with others. Willingness to direct parents to give their feedback and instructions to the leadership team, greet parents and students pleasantly, step in to be certain that children are escorted into the building even when not assigned.

Physical Demand And Physical Requirements

Position has frequent physical demand requirements, which include flexibility, lifting and transferring skills, and full range of motion in all joints. Employee will be expected to perform physical agility activities, which relate to the essential function of the job. Agility requirements include ability to scoot, bend, kneel, carry and lift up to 55 lbs., grasp and perform life saving activities such as CPR and PMAB techniques. Position requires adherence to work practices that meet health and safety guidelines and requirements including: Washes hands frequently and between students. Wears closed toe shoes. No dangling earrings or large necklaces or bracelets which could be distracting to the students. No perfume, body fragrances, hair tonics, or residual cigarette smoke which can be smelled. Reports all injuries to staff and to students as soon as possible to leadership team. Ensures the use of universal precautions to prevent cross contamination. Assists other staff when immediately necessary for safety or stepping in to assist with a client not assigned to them.
