Title: Lifesaving Programs Specialist
Position Summary: The Lifesaving programs specialist assists in the daily operations of the lifesaving programs department. This is a multi-faceted role that encompasses multiple lifesaving areas including foster, transport, and off-site adoptions.

Staff members at all levels are expected to be ARL mission ambassadors. This person will be devoted to assisting the organization accomplish the necessary philanthropic duties that will assist in raising funds and spreading positive awareness of the organization to the community. These duties include, but are not limited to:
-Providing needed information for stories and promotions.
-Ensuring the needs of the animals and public are met whenever possible.
-Assisting with events or fundraising as needed.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with implementing innovative programs and promotions to expand lifesaving efforts.
- Partner closely with other departments to achieve lifesaving goals.
- Serve as a point of contact and provides support to foster volunteers. This includes fielding after-hours calls on designated days.
- May assist in coordinating foster appointments.
- Seek placement for Emergency Boarding requests.[LQ1]
- Work with dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, pregnant and nursing animals, small animals, and farm animals using fear free methods.
- Utilize the foster volunteer database.
- Responsible for coordinating logistics as they relate to Pawsitive Partners program and transport of animals to partner organizations.
- Assist Lifesaving Programs Supervisor to expand relationships with rescue and shelter partners with a focus on networking to send animals from ARL to partners.
- Seek rescue/transfer/foster for identified animals with a goal of placement in less than 72 hours (about 3 days).
- Serve as a shelter liaison to communicate between internal departments for scheduled transport.
- Ensure health certificates and any other transport or off-site adoption requirements are obtained promptly.
- Responsible for coordinating off-site events utilizing the ARL mobile unit with a growth goal for off-site adoptions and community outreach.
- Assist in identifying appropriate animals for off-site events or transport.
- Coordinate care, transportation, and facilitation of adoptions for pets off-site such as in-store at a Petco or PetSmart. Is point of contact for in-store locations.
- Work cooperatively with all shelter departments and staff on effective daily operation of lifesaving program activities.
- Provide customer service and adoption counseling to prospective adopters and members of the public when needed, such as at events.
- Oversee volunteers at events when needed.
- May participate in daily rounds.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Ideal candidate will have the following skills/requirements:
- Being bilingual (Spanish speaking) is a highly preferred skill for the position
- High school diploma or its educational equivalent
- Valid and current PA State Driver's License in good standing
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Able to work well under pressure, in emotionally charged situations and handle confrontation politely and professionally while finding a solution.
- Exceptional attention to detail with spatial, administrative organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to interact with dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, pregnant and nursing animals, small animals, and farm animals in a calm, non-threatening manner.
- Ability to work outside in variety of weather conditions doing light/moderate physical labor, as needed.
- Ability to positively interact with colleagues, coworkers, and community members from widely varied backgrounds with integrity and honesty throughout all facets of the position, always maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency with computers and software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and/or Google Sheets, Google Docs, ability to learn shelter software and/or other applications as needed.
- Willingness to work as a team member, pitch in as needed and have fun.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to odors and airborne particles including animal fur, chemicals and typical materials found in barns (straw, hay, dust, dirt, manure, insects, etc.)
- High levels of noise
- Can be fast-paced and stressful, working with emotional clients.
- Department hours of operation between 8:30am and 7pm seven days a week, flexible work hours will be required (including holidays, weekends, and overtime)
- Physical requirements include being able to withstand prolonged periods of sitting or standing, lifting, or moving up to 50 pounds.
Overtime: This position is eligible for overtime.
