Purpose of Position

Performing routine animal care, enrichment, facility cleaning, and other related duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Job Duties

Animal Care

· Provide appropriate quantity and quality of food and water to shelter animals daily

· Responsible for enrichment of animals while they are in holding; including getting dogs outside for bathroom breaks regularly and enrichment in their kennels

· Responsible for cleaning animal housing and rooms.

· Monitor animals and immediately report health, behavior, or temperament issues to Shelter Manager

Facility Care

· Follow established protocols to daily clean, disinfect, and maintain shelter kennels, cages, and all animal and general areas as assigned and instructed

· Operate laundry, cleaning, dishwashing and other equipment

· Restock cleaning, feeding, and other supply areas and inform Shelter Manager when reordering is necessary

· Maintain equipment in good working condition and report need for repair or replacement of equipment to Shelter Manager

· Assist in cleaning and maintenance of entire facility and grounds, as directed

Additional Responsibilities

· Ensure a safe work environment, follow all safety guidelines, and model safe work practices

· Take immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, customer, animal or the organization at risk

Education and/or Experience

· Animal care and customer service experience preferred.

Language Ability

· Proficient in accurate spelling and writing

· Ability to use addition, subtraction and simple fractions

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

· Can be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch.

· Lifting up to 50 LBS

· Must have ability to focus and stay on task

· Must be able to deal effectively with the public

· Work may expose employee to odors, diseases of animals that are possibly contagious, bites, scratches, animal waste and high noise levels

· Long periods of standing

· Work may require outdoors in high heat or cold environment on occasion

Environmental Adaptability

· Ability to work in a fast pace environment

· Ability to be flexible with work schedule to meet the demands of the organization

· Ability to meet short deadlines

· While preforming the duties of the job, the employee may be or is occasionally exposed to unpleasant smells or airborne particles (i.e. pet dander)

· The noise level in the work environment can be loud

· Must be capable of handling stressful situations and ever changing daily workloads and demands

At Will Employment

There is no minimum period of employment guaranteed or implied by acceptance of an employment offer. Employment for this position is at will, which means that employment is for no specific term and that employment may be terminated at any time without cause.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $10.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
