The Ann Arbor YMCA is hiring Dance instructors. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Healthy Living, this position is responsible for the teaching of specified classes in compliance with the standards, policies and procedures of the Ann Arbor YMCA. It is expected that instructors will possess leadership, organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to develop and implement effective lesson plans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare lessons and teach classes as directed by the Director of Healthy Living.
- Supervise groups of 6-10 participants and ensure teaching practices facilitate a safe environment.
- Maintain records as required e.g. attendance, progress reports; inform the Director of any student whose registration in class is not verified on the class registration list.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers.
- Uphold and exemplify YMCA Core Values.
- Attend staff meetings and program in-service trainings as required.
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary. In emergencies, contact the Director of Healthy Living or membership desk immediately.
- Organize and put away class equipment. Report promptly to Director any conditions requiring the attention of cleaning or maintenance staff as well as any damaged equipment.
- Obtain a YMCA-approved substitute instructor for any class in which an unavoidable absence prevents teaching commitments from being met. Inform the Director of any anticipated absence and the name of the substitute instructor.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
- Exemplify a commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout the Association, across programs, and at all administrative levels.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings.
- Reads all YMCA communications including but not limited to email daily.
- Any other duties as needed.

Requirements
1. A minimum of 1 year training in dance is required.
2. Experience planning and instructing dance classes to groups of 6-10 children is preferred.
3. Instructors are expected to have an in-depth knowledge of safety factors and current teaching practices and techniques, successful teaching experience, and on-going personal initiatives to continue and improve professional growth and technical skill in one’s area of expertise.
4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
5. Must demonstrate core competencies in the areas of Mission Advancement, Collaboration, Operational Effectiveness and Personal Growth.
6. A patient, high-energy, and a goal-oriented attitude is essential. Experience working with participants form a diverse range of backgrounds is preferred.
7. Must be certified in concussion prevention, recognition and response within 60 days of employment.
8. Must be CPR and First Aid certified within 60 days of employment.
9. Multi-lingual ability is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) while maintaining alertness for long periods of time.
2. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
3. Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 80 pounds in weight.
Salary : $18 - $23
