What are the responsibilities and job description for the Homeless Services-Human Services Specialist IV position at Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services?
The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services is looking for a Human Services Specialist IV to provide the case management of the participants approved for housing within the Housing Commission’s CoC funded SHP housing program.
Essential Duties:
1. At all times, the incumbent will provide customer service to both internal and external customers that meets or exceeds the standards set by the Department. The incumbent will cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences.
2. Provide high quality, culturally sensitive, client-centered, intensive housing-and-life-safety-focused case management utilizing evidence-based practices of motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care and harm reduction
3. Coordinate and develop housing plans with participants, coordinating the needs and track the progress of participants. Create a treatment plan for ongoing case management
4. Assist participants with housing search and assist in applying for benefits and mainstream resources. Work in partnership with the housing locator on completing applications for housing and search,
5. Document participant services and case notes. Meet with participants on a monthly basis and monitor program guidelines with the participant.
6. Monitor the ongoing progress of placed participants and compliance with housing guidelines, maintenance of skills of independent living, and clinical treatment once the participant has transitioned to housing.
7. In cases of non or partial compliance formulate a plan of correction, monitor said plan, and report to housing and supervisor on a monthly basis.
8. Meet monthly with housing commission to examine and identify problems and achievements
9. To provide mass care and sheltering to surviving persons following a disaster affecting residents of Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland, when necessary. These duties may include performing the duties of a shelter manager, staffing a shelter and/or assisting residents to file for assistance from FEMA or from State programs
Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with concentration in psychology, human services, sociology, social work, or related field.
1 year providing casework and experience with the homeless population

Notes: 1. Additional professional or technical experience in the administration of a human services program, working with the homeless population, or experience conducting studies and analyses of programs, procedures, practices and organizations may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Applicants may substitute education at the graduate level at an accredited college or university in a human services related field at the rate of 30 semester hours per year for the required experience
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Administrative Officer classifications or Administrative Officer specialty codes in the General, Administrative, Clerical, and Office Services field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education
