Probation Officer Assistants will work directly with offenders involved in various stages of Anoka County Court proceedings.

Position Description
The Anoka County Community Corrections mission is Working to Build a Safer Community. The department has an immediate opening for Probation Officer Assistant. The Probation Officer Assistant provides assistance in monitoring corrections facilities residents to ensure they are safe, secure, and supervised. This position also provides assistance with court and field case management services.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of February 19, 2024 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Pay & Benefits
- Salary: $23.08 to $27.12 per hour.
- 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 28. $48,006 to $64,812 ($23.08 to $31.16 per hour).

Work Location
- This position will work at Anoka County Courthouse, located at 2100 3rd Ave C-100 Anoka MN 55303.
- Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Probation Officer Assistant.
- Maintain accurate documentation of case activity utilizing department and offender data systems and computer hardware.
- Schedule offenders for court ordered mental health evaluations and supplemental assessments when requested.
- Completes client progress reports and violation reports per policy to be submitted to the Anoka County District Court.
- Works cohesively with Anoka County Court Administration, law enforcement officials, psychologists, and the community to ensure coordination of local services.
- Enters and maintains accurate client and case information in Court Services Tracking System (CSTS).
- Focus on pro-social skill development, effective use of rewards and sanctions, use of a variety of individual counseling approaches, and facilitation of diverse programming.
- Work collaboratively with a team to ensure all required services and tasks are completed in a timely manner including cross training to cover other duties as needed.
- Assist with managing a low-risk caseload of Offenders who are court ordered to complete Community Work Service.
- Perform case review and take appropriate action according to policy.
- Consult with supervisor regarding low needs, high-risk clients and high needs, low-risk clients.
- Provide monitoring assistance for case conditions, prepare reports, interview clients, conduct community client contacts, court preparation work, facilitate drug testing and other supportive tasks for court and field services.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
High school diploma or equivalent education
In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
Must be 21 years of age or older by date of hire
Successfully pass driver's license background check
Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
- Degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or related field
- 1-2 years of job-related experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Standard office environment, correctional and detention institutions, field offices, courtrooms, offender'/clients' homes, hospitals and schools, and various community settings depending on assignment
- Work activities may involve contact with and the supervision of juveniles or adults charged with major or minor criminal offenses, and/or individuals who may be hostile, dangerous, threatening, armed, and aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Consequently, some assignments may encounter stressful and physically threatening situations
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness
- Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds
- Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties
- Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills
- Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing
- Physical activity may include handling/carrying equipment, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Periodic high levels of exertion in the form of self-defense, pursuit, or restraint of an individual is possible for some assignments
- Lifting over 100 lbs. in emergency situations
- Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to various law enforcement equipment depending on assignment
- Law enforcement equipment may include but is not limited to radios, pagers, handcuffs, first aid equipment, restraints, chemical agents, Tasers, and protective equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves
- Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle
- Additional physical/mental requirements that occur may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions
- Exposure to bodily fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or other hazards is possible while performing essential duties
