Occupational Therapist
As an occupational therapist in a special education school, your primary responsibility is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy services for students with disabilities or special needs. You will work collaboratively with a team of educators, therapists, and parents to promote the development of essential skills necessary for students to succeed in their academic and daily life activities.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive assessments: Assess students' functional abilities and limitations in areas of motor, cognitive, sensory, and social-emotional development using standardized assessments, observations, and interviews.

Develop individualized treatment plans: Based on assessment results, develop individualized goals, objectives, and interventions to improve students' performance in activities of daily living, motor coordination, sensory integration, and fine motor skills.

Implement therapeutic interventions: Implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions, including assistive technology, therapeutic exercises, sensory integration, and adaptive equipment, to support students' progress towards achieving their goals.

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team: Work collaboratively with the school's team of educators, speech and language therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, and parents to coordinate services and ensure consistency in students' interventions.

Document progress: Keep accurate and detailed records of students' progress, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

Provide education and support: Provide education and support to students, families, and school staff on ways to improve students' functional abilities, promote independence, and support successful transitions to new environments.
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
- Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
- Previous experience working in a special education setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of IEP development and implementation.
- Familiarity with assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and sensory integration.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
The occupational therapist will work in a school environment and be required to provide services in various settings, including classrooms and therapy rooms. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and the ability to physically manipulate and position students for therapeutic interventions.
Salary : $65,000 - $95,000
