SUMMARY

The User Experience Engineer creates innovative UX concepts, generates and conceptualizing designs at a variety of fidelity levels (sketching, wireframes, medium-high fidelity mockups, prototyping). The position works closely with designers, engineers, and developers on the UX Team as well as subject matter experts, developers, project leads, and product managers on other teams to deliver excellent products with a compelling and exciting user experience. The UX engineer will use a number of techniques from the User Centered Design Process, including (but not limited to) conducting user research, analyzing research findings, concept ideation and creation, iterative design across low to high fidelities, assisting with the implementation of designs (in prototypes and the product), and conducting usability testing and expert evaluations of designs and functioning products.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design, develop and evaluate cutting-edge user interfaces
  • Utilize industry best practices and design standards to define designs criteria
  • Utilize standard design and prototyping tools
  • Effectively communicate ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Apply user-centered design processes to create easy-to-use, compelling, and exciting interface designs ranging from low to high fidelity to communicate information architecture, user interface layout, and interaction design
  • Create, evaluate and modify prototypes to support evolving software application development
  • Assist with the implementation of designs in production code
  • Create appropriate assets to communicate the visual design for products to implement
  • Review UX artifacts created by other UX team members
  • Assist team to conduct user research and usability studies as needed and as appropriate
  • Assist team to analyze findings of usability studies and user research to create reports based on findings


JOB MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in interaction design, HCI, graphic design, industrial design, or related field
  • Some internship or co-op level experience in interaction design
  • Some internship or co-op level experience in user-centered design process, and fitting that within the software development lifecycle
  • Strong knowledge and experience of creative applications such as Figma, Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe In-Design
  • Working knowledge prototyping tools like AXURE, Adobe XD, or Figma
  • Basic understanding of HTML, HTML5 and CSS and/or other front end development technologies or a willingness and interest to learn them
  • Ability to define approaches to complex design problems and effectively convey solutions through presentations, prototypes, and design specifications


OTHER INFORMATION

  • Agile and Lean UX experience a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, agile environment
  • Background or basic understanding of ANSYS products desired
  • UX portfolio showing strong creative skills, ability to generate solid design ideas, and a thorough understanding of UX design process
  • Understanding of factors that contribute to effective workflow and user interface design
  • Previous experience with development IDEs/tools (like Visual Studio, Eclipse, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with usability testing to gain feedback and improve upon proposed UI designs and/or showing previous experience with iterative design based on feedback is desirable
  • Ability to articulate user experience design principles
  • Detail-oriented and highly developed organizational skills including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in a virtual team environment
  • Background in engineering or numerical simulation and/or CAD software demonstrated by Bachelor's degree or related experience is a plus
  • Previous experience designing the user experience or user interface for engineering simulation and/or 3D Modeling (CAD) software is a plus
