Position Summary:
The Delivery Driver/Helper loads and unloads cabinets, millwork, hardware, and related items. This position must be able to drive a medium duty truck and pull a trailer. The position is responsible for the verification of all items loaded using a load list and the safe transportation and delivery of the product to job specific work sites. This position is also required to label all material shipped if the label is not visible. The position is responsible for the direction of any delivery helpers assigned to assist in the loading or unloading of material. The position is responsible for the inspection of the vehicle to ensure that it is in proper working order. Must be able to read maps, follow directions, communicate clearly in English, and manage time well.
What you'll do:
- Safely load, unload, and move cabinets, millwork, and associated material from production facility to various jobsites and deliver to proper rooms and areas of the job as noted on labels and paperwork.
- Drive and navigate medium duty truck or van using maps or verbal or written directions.
- Inspect and label material to be delivered and protect it from damage.
- Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment such as fuel, oil, water, tires, lights and brakes in order to ensure vehicle is in proper working condition.
- Assist receiving as needed.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties & Requirements:
This position requires the ability to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. This position requires the ability to drive safely and navigate using maps or directions. This position requires the ability to read and write English, to communicate clearly in English, and the ability to apply basic mathematical principles accurately. The ability to use a tape measure and to read blueprints and shop drawings is also required. The person in this position must have the ability to coordinate and direct the loading and unloading of material with fellow team members. This position requires the ability to multi-task and to tolerate changes in priorities. This position requires the ability to accept criticism and deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations. Ability to regularly satisfy contract background and substance abuse test standards is also required.
Required Experience, Training or Education:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of tools, materials, and processes used to protect and secure material for delivery
- Willingness/ability to travel out of town, as assignments require and work overtime as required
- Proficiency using a tape measure and ability to tally linear foot measurements, and ability to read and interpret blueprint-type drawings
- Strong knowledge and accuracy with mathematical concepts and calculations as well as attention to detail
- Ability to recognize and suggest appropriate resolutions for problems
- Good clerical and organizational skills- able to read, write, and organize Company paperwork
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude
- Strong communication skills, and ability to understand, read, write, and speak clearly in English
- Ability to tolerate working in all weather conditions
- Demonstrated safe driving skills with a variety of medium duty trucks, some of which involve pulling a trailer
- Ability to perform emergency truck repairs such as changing tires, adding fluids or installing light bulbs, fuses, and spark plugs
- Ability to work effectively despite numerous interruptions and changes in priorities
