General Purpose
Performs semi-skilled, skilled, technical and administrative work in the maintenance and custodial care of the facilities, grounds and equipment of the County.
Supervision Received
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Maintenance.
Supervision Exercised
Assist Maintenance Director with daily operations as team leader and is responsible for daily operation of the maintenance department in the absence of Maintenance Director.
Employment Qualifications
· High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
· Math skills necessary to measure chemicals and cleaning solutions.
· Reading skills necessary to read instructions, safety materials and government regulations.
· Experience in the maintenance and repair of building and mechanical systems.
· Ability to have a flexible schedule.
· Possess basic computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite products and Building Management Systems.
Other Requirements
Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license. Must be able to complete and/or pass all Antrim County pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to: employment application, oral interview, reference check, background and driver record check, drug screening and employee physical.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Empties wastebaskets and removes other debris from offices. Cleans baskets and changes liners. Removes trash from offices and empties paper recycling boxes.
- Sweeps, mops and polishes tiled floors. Uses vacuum cleaners and carpet sweepers to clean carpeted surfaces. Performs deep and spot cleaning of carpeted surfaces.
- Dusts and polishes furniture, baseboards, file cabinets, window ledges, and other fixtures. Uses cleaning solution to remove marks from desks, tables and other furniture.
- Cleans and disinfects sinks, stools and other fixtures. Cleans and polishes drinking fountains, mirrors and chrome fixtures. Stocks restroom with hand towels, toilet tissue, facial tissues and soap.
- Follows cleaning checklist for daily, weekly, monthly and annual task assignments.
- Cleans walls in offices, hallways and restrooms.
- Maintains and stocks the inventory of custodial supplies.
- Assists in moving furniture, setting up and cleaning up for meetings and special events.
- Performs minor electrical repairs such as replacing bulbs, fans and switches.
- Performs minor plumbing repairs such as replacing aerators and may replace faucets, flush handles and other components.
- Performs interior painting.
- Uses snow blower and shovel to remove snow from walks and steps. Spreads salt on icy surfaces. Performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, weeding and pick up of lawn trash, such as paper, wrappers, containers, cigarette butts, etc.
- May follow up on work of contractors to ensure proper completion of contracted maintenance work.
- Assists with arranging for delivery or pick up of large equipment.
- Cleans department vehicles.
- Maintains prompt attendance as scheduled.
- Lead team members on daily operations.
- Assumes duties of Maintenance Director when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Tools and Equipment Used
Motorized vehicles for driving and evaluation purposes, power and hand tools/equipment for carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and cement finishing work; operation of mowers, plows, tractors, and snow blowers; mechanics tools needed for minor repairs of lawn and snow equipment; janitorial tools including floor buffers, steam cleaners, washers, vacuums, mops, brooms; personal computer, including word processing software and mechanical system software; calculator, copy, and fax machine; phone, portable radio.

- Works in cramped body positions while perform some assigned duties.

- Exposure to equipment where risk exists of getting burned, bruised, scraped or cut.
- May be required to change shifts due to call-ins.
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls.
