The Infusion Nurse provides comprehensive care to patients and their families during all phases of cancer care – pre-treatment, during treatment and post-treatment.
Requirements
The Infusion Nurse educates patients and their families regarding:
- Diagnosis
- Treatment
- Side effects
- Dietary issues
The Infusion Nurse also:
- Performs venous access appropriately for type of chemotherapy
- Manages venous access devices per protocol
- Assesses blood return
- Uses antithrombotics when indicated
- Administers chemotherapy as ordered per protocol
- Manages infusion reactions
- Documents appropriately in the EMR and generates and approves billing charges
- Phone triage
- Provides a clean, safe environment in which to provide patient care
- Understands handling of hazardous substances and waste
Experience & Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
RN Licensure
Minimum 2 yrs experience
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent skills in physical assessment
Ability to work well independently and within a team
Excellent skills in time management, organization and communication
Detail-oriented
