Position Overview:
APEX Adult Day Services is seeking a compassionate and dependable Adult Day Center Activity Assistant & Driver to join our team. This dual-role position is vital in ensuring the safety, comfort, and engagement of our participants — older adults and adults with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:Transportation Duties:
- Safely transport participants to and from the center using a company-provided vehicle.
- Assist participants with boarding and exiting the vehicle, ensuring proper use of mobility aids and seatbelts.
- Conduct routine vehicle safety checks and report maintenance concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs and incident reports.
- Comply with all Colorado traffic laws and agency safety protocols.
- Keep vehicle clean and sanitized before and after each route.
Activity Support
- Assist with planning and leading daily group and individual activities (games, crafts, music, exercise, social activities, etc.)
- Encourage participant engagement while respecting individual abilities and needs
- Provide supervision to ensure participant safety and well-being
- Support clients with light personal care as needed (redirection, mobility assistance, reminders)
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment
- Assist with meal and snack times as needed
- Document participation or report concerns to supervisors as required
- Support participant engagement in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities.
- Ensure cleanliness of common areas, dining spaces, and restrooms.
- Monitor participant health, safety, and behavior; report any changes or concerns.
- Foster a respectful, supportive environment for participants and staff.
Transportation / Driving
- Safely transport participants to and from the Adult Day Center following assigned routes
- Assist participants with entering and exiting the vehicle, including use of seatbelts or mobility devices
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Maintain a clean, safe vehicle environment
- Follow all traffic laws, company policies, and safety procedures
- Communicate professionally with participants, families, and staff
Additional Expectations:
- Must be able to care for participants with compassion and professionalism.
- Adapt to the varying physical and emotional needs of participants.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Prior experience with seniors or adults with disabilities preferred.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with physical transfers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must pass a background check per Colorado state regulations.
- Dependable, team-oriented, and capable of multitasking.
Work Environment:
- Driving in varied road and weather conditions.
- Active indoor setting with routine lifting, moving, and participant interaction.
- Frequent contact with individuals with physical and cognitive challenges.
