What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Interpreter (Swahili or Dari/Farsi) position at Appleton Area School District?
AASD has three Educational Interpreter opportunities available.
- Swahili Interpreter - 1.0 FTE (100%) - Kaleidoscope Academy and Wilson Middle School
- Interpreter - Dari/Farsi - 1.0 FTE (100%) - Dunlap (50%) and Kaleidoscope Academy (50%)
- Interpreter - Swahili - 1.0 FTE (100%) - Appleton North (50%) and Franklin (50%)
The Appleton Area School District (AASD) is the sixth-largest school district in Wisconsin, located in the heart of the Fox Cities. Essential Function: Support the education of English Learner students. EL interpreters assist in
instruction, translate oral and written communications, provide native language support for students,
communicate and work with EL parents, aid staff members in performing clerical tasks and individual
activities, and assist with recess, supervision and similar duties.
Responsibilities, Tasks & Duties:
- Assist in the instruction of EL students by
- Working with individuals or small groups in the mainstream classroom
- Working with individuals or small groups in the EL classroom
- Interpreting instructions to students individually or in groups
- Scaffolding with the native language when appropriate
- Translate school material, both oral and written
- May use a computer for translation work
- Perform other duties (clerical, supervision, etc.) as assigned
- Exhibit cultural competency in working with all students, staff, families etc.
- Interpreting at school functions, including parent-teacher conferences
- Performs such other related responsibilities as may be assigned
