What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Biller position at Arc of Anchorage.?

Summary of Job Functions:
Performs medical billing to include chart review for assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes, claim preparation, claim submission, adjudication, and reconciliation utilizing The Arc of Anchorage’s electronic medical record.
Essential Job Functions:
- Reviewing claims for accuracy and completeness and obtaining any missing information.
- Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software
- Following up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.
- Checking insurance payments for accuracy
- Calling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary
- Identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurances.
- Researching and appealing denied claims.
- Updating billing software with rate changes.
- Posting insurance/patient payments (I had to use patient in there because in billing world, it just looks weird to use anything else)
- Assign ICD-10 and CPT codes to claims.
- Assist in service authorization requests for behavioral health services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
- Knowledge and understanding of billing procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Able to understand and explain EOBs.
- Knowledge of primary and secondary coordination of benefits
- Able to work in an integrated team.
- Knowledge of general billing processes and procedures required to resolve claims for payment.
- Intermediate understanding of Microsoft 365 applications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience in behavioral health billing or education in healthcare reimbursement, preferred.
Clearances:
- Background checks as defined by licensing agencies.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance
- TB Assessment
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods
- Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands (s) or arms.
- Communication skills using the spoken word.
- Hearing within normal range
- Seeing - within normal parameters
