MEDICAL RECORDS COORDINATOR

Description:

Responsible and accountable for the record keeping procedures and storage of all medical records in a manner consistent with facility policy, procedures, professional standards, and state and federal laws and regulations for Long Term Care Facilities

Analyzes and interprets documentation in the medical record utilizing the current coding classification system (ICD-10) to the Diagnoses

Manages the release of health information functions for the facility including review and processing of all requests for information

System Supervisor for the Electronic Charting System (ECS) for all system Long Term Care Facilities

Responsible for closing out discharge medical records

Communicates with physicians and physician offices regarding documentation guidelines and medical record needs

Performs departmental and other work duties as assigned

Assumes responsibility for assigned duties, providing care for patients ages adolescent, adult and geriatric

Serve on the RAC audit team

Planning and organizational skills Ability to file, type and utilize computer accurately and efficiently

Good verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 coding system, confidentiality and release of information laws

Acquired knowledge of Federal and State regulations governing nursing home and medical records

Good physical and mental health required

Ability to conduct self in a calm and professional manner

Alert, productive and attentive to duty

Ability to lift, bend, push, pull and walk

Education/Experience:

High school graduate

Prefer experience in medical office, clerical field, medical terminology and ICD-10 coding
