Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (40 hours/week)
Compensation: $55,000–$60,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Position Summary

The Director of Music and Liturgy is a ministerial position responsible for leading and coordinating the parish’s music and liturgical life in fidelity to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. This position collaborates closely with the Pastor and parish staff to ensure that sacred music serves the liturgy and supports the full, conscious, and active participation of the faithful.

The Director of Music and Liturgy carries out these responsibilities in accordance with parish policies and the norms and directives of the Archdiocese of Denver, as outlined in the Pastoral Handbook.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Liturgical and Musical Leadership

• Plan and direct music for all weekend liturgies, Holy Days of Obligation, sacramental celebrations, and special parish liturgies.
  
• Serve as principal musician and conductor; schedule and rehearse choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists.
  
• Collaborate with the Pastor and clergy in liturgical planning.
  
• Prepare worship aids and musical resources for liturgies and prayer services.
  
• Coordinate and oversee all parish music ministries and volunteers.
  
• Provide formation and ongoing development opportunities for musicians and liturgical ministers.
  
• Meet with engaged couples and bereaved families to plan wedding and funeral liturgies in collaboration with clergy.
  
• Ensure compliance with all music copyright and licensing requirements.
  
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of music ministry spaces.
  

Administrative and Financial Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and management of the annual music and liturgy budget.
  
• Oversee the care, maintenance, and inventory of parish-owned instruments, music resources, and audio/visual equipment.
  
• Obtain Pastor approval for all purchases related to music and liturgy.
  
• Coordinate procurement of liturgical supplies and seasonal décor in consultation with the Pastor.
  
• Serve as liaison to the liturgical environment/decorating committee.
  
• Ensure compliance with Archdiocesan risk management and volunteer documentation requirements.

• Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
• Demonstrated understanding of Catholic liturgy and the role of sacred music.
• Bachelor’s degree in Sacred Music preferred.
• Degree or formal training in Liturgy preferred.
• Proficiency in vocal and instrumental music; ability to teach music fundamentals.
• Experience working with volunteers and collaborating in a parish or ministry setting.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to operate standard office and audio/visual equipment.
• Occasional travel may be required.
