Job Description:
Archwood Senior Living is seeking a compassionate and energetic Activity Assistant to join our team, with a primary focus on serving our residents in Memory Care. As an Activity Assistant, you will play a vital role in enriching the lives of our residents by helping to plan, organize, and implement engaging activities under the supervision of the Activity Director. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in Planning Activities: Collaborate closely with the Activity Director to develop and execute a variety of activities tailored specifically to the interests, abilities, and needs of our Memory Care residents.
- Lead and Facilitate Activities: Conduct group and individual activities such as reminiscence therapy, sensory stimulation, music sessions, gentle exercise, and other specialized activities designed for those with memory impairment.
- Resident Engagement: Encourage and motivate residents to participate in activities, providing support and adapting activities as needed to ensure inclusivity and success for those with varying cognitive abilities.
- Monitor Resident Well-being: Observe Memory Care residents during activities, report any changes in their physical or emotional well-being to the Activity Director, and assist in creating a safe and supportive environment.
- Administrative Support: Assist in maintaining the Memory Care activity calendars, tracking participation, and preparing materials for activities.
- Communication: Work in close collaboration with other staff members, families, and volunteers to ensure the success of the Memory Care activity program and to meet the individual needs of residents.
- Promote a Positive Atmosphere: Help foster a warm, welcoming, and stimulating environment where Memory Care residents feel valued, engaged, and supported.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in a memory care or assisted living environment is preferred. Experience in organizing and leading activities for individuals with dementia or other cognitive impairments is highly desirable.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or certification in recreation, gerontology, dementia care, or a related field is advantageous.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with residents who have memory impairments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a specialized care team.
- Creativity and enthusiasm in developing and leading memory care-specific activities.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with seniors, particularly those with cognitive challenges.
- Basic computer skills for maintaining records and creating activity schedules.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move supplies, as well as assist residents with mobility if necessary.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and participating in physical activities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
