ACHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center and licensed primary care clinic. We provide Family Medicine and Dental Care, with additional specialists in Behavioral Health, Chiropractic, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Podiatry and Optometry. ACHC Clinics are located across Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties.
SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Billing Supervisor, the Billing & Collections Specialist – Dental is responsible for handling the billing and insurance processing tasks of an FQHC dental office This includes auditing charges, preparing and submitting claims, managing patient accounts, and ensuring that the practice receives timely and accurate payments for services rendered.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITES
- Coordinate with dental office staff to ensure accurate patient information and treatment codes
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of claim forms, attaching necessary documentation as required.
- Prepare and submit dental claims to insurance companies electronically or via paper.
- Generate and distribute patient statements and invoices.
- Bills and audits dental charges from multiple dental offices.
- Generate refund requests when appropriate.
- Provide feedback to staff involved in the preparation of records and superbills for improvement in accuracy of all such records.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies, including HIPAA and insurance company guidelines.
- Analyze billing data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all billing activities, claims, and communications.
- Perform special data collection projects and other assignments.
- Generate reports on billing activities and claim status for management review.
- Maintain accurate detail of patients’ accounts.
- Coordinate with dental site on treatment authorizations for insurance.
- Work in NextGen EMR, EDR, and PM systems.
- Keep Billing staff and other staff informed as needed.
- Respect and protect information regarding patients and other team members and abide by the rules of the Confidentiality Protocol.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either verbally or in writing.

Qualifications
SKILLS:
- Written and oral fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including, but not limited to in-person, telephone, and email
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given
- Mathematical accuracy
- Experience in dental billing or medical billing, with a strong understanding of dental terminology and procedures
- Revenue billing and collection problem-solving skills
- Ability to listen to and comprehend communication from patients, staff, and others
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other computer-based platforms
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, resulting in a high-level of accuracy
- Demonstrated good problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize and perform functions with minimal supervision
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with patients, staff and providers of diverse backgrounds
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two years of experience in private pay and Medi-Cal billing and data reconciliation preferred
- Previous dental billing experience
- Previous Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience preferred
