Arizona Plant Breeders Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of the research team located in Casa Grande, AZ.
Essentials duties and responsibilities:
The Research Assistant is responsible for supporting and assisting in all the day to day operations of Arizona Plant Breeders. This includes the following activities:
- Preparing and packaging the seed
- Planting, crossing, note taking, nursery maintenance and harvesting all APB nurseries (durum, HRSW, Triticale and Barley)
- Processing of all harvested material (cleaning, thrashing, and testing the seed quality in the lab)
- Ability to travel out of state and stay overnight
- Willingness to work on weekends during the busy months
- Other related duties as assigned
- Candidates must be a motivated, self-starting individual
Education & work experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the life sciences
- Basic understanding of plant breeding and research methodologies
- Experience with data management and record keeping is important
- Good interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communication skills in English
- Familiarity with Microsoft package e.g. word and excel
- Ability to work independently and in teams
