The School of Social Transformation in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking a dynamic and energetic Academic Success Advising Coordinator to join our current undergraduate advising team. This advisor will be responsible for internship development/career advising for students in SST as well as providing academic advising support for the various interdisciplinary degrees and programs both in person and online for over 700 students pursuing majors in Justice Studies, Women and Gender Studies, African and African American Studies, Asian Pacific American Studies, American Studies and more. This position acts as a key contributor to creating and promoting career development and supporting student retention and graduation to ensure students make timely progress toward degree completion through a range of in-person and virtual academic counseling and support strategies.

Essential Duties
Under supervision of the Manager, Academic Advising, the Academic Success Advising Coordinator uses independent analysis and judgement to develop, coordinate, and supervise complex and varied administrative tasks in order to provide exemplary career and academic advising services to the SST community. The position encompasses two distinct areas of responsibility: Internship development and coordination as well as academic advising for the many degree programs in SST.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a viable internship program
- Provide leadership and direction in the areas of individual assessment, educational choices, career-planning and development and employment strategies for students
- Teach the internship course for SST programs
- Facilitate student learning by assisting students to secure appropriate internships to enhance overall academic experience and learn skills essential to the successful pursuit of opportunities post-graduation
- Counsel and advise students regarding employment opportunities and build partnerships with employers to develop student opportunities for experiential endeavors locally, state-wide, nationally and internationally.
- Identify, develop and monitor current internship sites; conduct site visits to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships for students; maintain database for tracking purposes
- Work collaboratively with faculty leads and administration to create policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships and to help identify and promote internships for specific majors within SST
- Develop and revise internship policies and procedures; develop an internship manual; assist in marketing the services and programs of SST by developing appropriate recruitment materials
- Membership in professional organizations
- Coordinate and assist with various events and activities representing SST throughout year (employer exploration days, career fairs, etc.)
- Advise students; respond to their questions and concerns; work with them to ensure ongoing satisfaction with their program and successful progress to degree completion.
- Assist students in exploring the diverse academic programs of SST as a whole
- Monitor student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools including eAdvisor, DARS, Advisor Portal, and Salesforce.
- Work closely with students to provide support and counsel in order to identify academic options such as: degree programs, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research and internships that align with academic and career goals.
- Assist students in resolving academic issues; make appropriate and timely referrals for non-academic issues and/or concerns to applicable services including, but not limited to: student health, counseling and consultation, and career services.
- Participate in recruitment/admissions, retention, career development, and student engagement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years or more of the following: advising or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in Academic Success Advising Coordinator retention, graduation, and academic planning; Or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Experience with computer programs including the internet and Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in offering a high level, fast paced customer service in a student services environment that prioritizes the success of a student in their approach to academic advising
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration and other interested parties
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
- Requires some attendance at evening and weekend events
