Position Information
The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) within the Department of Human Services (DHS), is hiring a Human Services Clinician to serve in one of the Division's primary client services' entry points. This employee will be part of the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) which links older adults and individuals with disabilities to services and resources with the goal of enhancing their quality of life, independence, and well-being.
The ADRC is part of the Agency on Aging in the Community Supports and Coordination Bureau (CSCB), a dynamic and innovative team of professionals. CSCB provides comprehensive wrap around supportive services helping older and vulnerable adults and their caregivers to maintain the highest level of independence and quality of life in their community of choice. CSCB also oversees multiple contracted services and monitors trends, legislation and policy impacting older adults. To learn more about ADSD and DHS .
Specific duties include:
- Conducting intake interviews to determine potential need for resources and services;
- Performing comprehensive assessments using a strengths framework in an integrated context that promotes safety, independence, dignity and wellbeing of customers seeking services;
- Partnering with customers and families to provide short term case management, developing service plans and ensuring follow-up to reduce risks and enhance ability to live independently;
- Securing appropriate funding and payment authorizations for services and assisting in completing financial eligibility paperwork for DHS and related programs, including applications for benefits and emergency financial requests;
- Maintaining electronic case records in compliance with applicable clinical and regulatory requirements;
- Providing outreach, support and consultation to team, internal DHS and external community partners; and
- Advocating on behalf of customers through emergency services/crisis intervention as needed.
Selection Criteria
Minimum:
- Master's Degree in Human Services, Counseling, Psychology, Social work or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a practicum prior to graduation involving diagnostic, treatment, and case management services; and
- Two years of post-Master's degree experience providing professional clinical human services, which included the application of diagnostic, treatment, and case management services.
Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
- Virginia licensed or license-eligible as a clinical social worker;
- Experience in assessing clients' eligibility for public benefit programs;
- Experience in providing services to persons with disabilities, seniors, and their families;
- Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural/ethnic backgrounds; and/or
- Bilingual in Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, or Vietnamese.
Special Requirements
Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence, or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a certified copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
