Scope of Work

Laboratory Automation Developer to design, develop, enhance, and maintain custom laboratory automation applications supporting client research and calibration activities. The role supports laboratory monitoring, control systems, scientific computing environments, and software integrations across multiple laboratory units.

Mandatory(must Have) Experience

        • A minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience programming with LabVIEW, including control system design and selection/integration of commercial hardware components.
        • A minimum of three (3) years of experience with version control systems (e.g., Subversion, Git).
        • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with LabVIEW Real-Time (RT) systems for control and automation applications.
        • Demonstrated experience working with Data Acquisition (DAQ) hardware.
        • Demonstrated familiarity and hands-on experience with NI Volume License Manager (VLM) software.
        • Proven capability to take over development and ongoing support of the Quantum Pressure / Fixed Length Optical Cavity (FLOC) pressure standard.
        • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of pressure measurement systems and applicable standards.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal laboratory or research environments.
  • Familiarity with hardware integration and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience with software lifecycle documentation and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of scientific data acquisition and calibration systems

Responsibilities

Task 1: Custom Laboratory Automation Application Development

  • Design and develop new laboratory automation applications to support client research and calibration activities.
  • Enhance and upgrade existing laboratory automation applications.
  • Develop and revise technical documentation related to lab software systems.
  • Maintain and support scientific computing software licenses used within laboratory environments.

Task 2: LabVIEW-Based Development & Automation Tools

  • Serve as the primary developer for LabVIEW-based laboratory automation solutions.
  • Develop and maintain applications using LabVIEW Release Automation Tools.
  • Support deployment and lifecycle management of LabVIEW applications across multiple lab units.
  • Ensure continued compatibility with laboratory instrumentation and control systems.

Task 3: System Analysis, Requirements Clarification & Technical Support

  • Analyze laboratory system requirements and translate scientific needs into technical solutions.
  • Assist researchers and software users in understanding system functionality.
  • Provide development estimates, implementation strategies, and enhancement recommendations.
  • Propose innovative solutions using modern software development techniques.

Task 4: Ongoing Software Support & Maintenance

  • Respond to ongoing support requests related to:
    • Software installations
    • Application issues
    • Enhancements and configuration changes
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of software-related issues in lab environments.
  • Provide clarification and updates to existing documentation as needed.
Task 5: Scientific Computing Software License Management

  • Support activation, deactivation, transfer, and tracking of scientific computing software licenses.
  • Maintain accurate records of license usage and status.
  • Generate reports on license activity for internal billing and audit purposes.
  • Notify users annually of license status and compliance requirements.

Task 6: Knowledge Base & Documentation Management

  • Identify gaps in documentation, knowledge base articles, and intranet resources.
  • Draft and submit updates
  • continuity and operational readiness.

Task 7: Continuation for government approval.

Maintain documentation accuracy to support & Option-Year Support

  • Support development activities that may extend beyond the base year.
  • Provide continuity of services across base and option years as required by workload and project timelines.
