Position Title: Front Office Support/Medical Receptionist
Summary of Duties: Responsible for providing consistently friendly and helpful interactions with patients/families and completing all telephone scheduling and check-in/check-out processes efficiently and accurately.
Typical Physical Demands: Extensive mobility; sitting and standing for extended periods of time; some bending and stooping required; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; requires manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard, calculator, photocopy machine, and other office equipment. Requires eyesight within normal range to read numbers, characters, and computer monitors; requires hearing within normal range for telephone use; occasional high stress.
Duties:
- Prepares for daily workflow, receives patients, completes patient registration process by confirming/updating patient insurance information as well as demographic information required for accurate billing.
- Using medical office computer applications, schedules patient appointments via incoming telephone calls and direct patient contact; reschedules as necessary.
- Answers general incoming phone calls and directs calls as appropriate.
- Requests co-payments and payments on account; records, totals and balances daily payments received.
- Completes administrative support functions including preparation of new patient charts, photocopying/printing medical records and documents as needed, distributing incoming faxes and messages.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Encourages communication and harmony with patients, medical providers, medical assistants and all other staff members; helps create and maintain a positive work environment.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Understanding of patient appointment rules established by medical providers
- Understanding of patient registration procedures
- Keyboarding proficiency
- Clear and complete understanding of medical record filing systems in use
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with medical providers, and co-workers
- Skill in consistently conveying friendliness and helpfulness to patients
Qualifications
- Medical administrative support
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience in medical records management
- Skilled in filing and organization
- Previous experience as a medical receptionist
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology
