Description
The Foster Placement Coordinator is a full-time position with the primary responsibility of matching and placing animals in need of foster, with foster families. This position also provides ongoing support to foster parents through training, resources and basic coaching.
This position requires the ability to work with loud noise in a confined area, and to sit at a computer for extended periods of time. It requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach, and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as handle animals weighing up to 100lbs.
The Foster Placement Coordinator works in the Asheville Humane Society Adoption Center. The work schedule is Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00 – 6:00. This position may require hours outside the stated work week. The hourly rate starts at $17.00
- Develop matches between animals in need of foster care and available foster families.
- Schedule pick-up/return appointments with foster families and be responsible for the physical hand-off and/or taking back of foster animals and supplies.
- Create and maintain a database of animals in the foster program and in shelter awaiting placement, as well as a database of individual foster homes and their capacity for care.
- Responsible for accurately entering and maintaining foster family information in the Shelter’s database.
- Take primary responsibility for screening and basic training of potential foster participants.
- Write and distribute foster pleas via email and social media.
- Respond to basic inquiries and messages about the foster program in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate proper cleaning and animal handling procedures.
- Responsible for reporting communication regarding temperament and health concerns of animals in foster homes to the Foster Program Manager.
- Responsible for assisting the Foster Veterinary Medical Assistant with handling, restraining, moving and medicating foster animals when needed.
- Preparing and filling necessary medication for animals leaving or returning from foster based on training and adherence to medical SOPs.
- Work with the Medical Foster Assistant and Shelter Manager to ensure space in the adoption center is available for scheduled foster returns.
- Perform euthanasia technician duties, both when scheduled and when deemed necessary by management for unexpected coverage.
- Perform on-call duties, both scheduled on-call times and when deemed necessary by Management for unexpected coverage.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic computer knowledge and proficiency with MS Office.
- Ability to apply proper animal handling skills, basic medical knowledge and knowledge of individual animal temperament.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle stress in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently, balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and communication skills.
- Ability to work with volunteers and co-workers in a professional manner.
- Ability to achieve certified euthanasia technician status & perform CET duties
- Shelter experience is a plus, but not required.
