GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of a state licensed/certified Administrator, assists residents with some activities of daily living (ADL’s) as related to assisting with medication administration, and maintains a safe, clean, home-like environment. Performs related duties as required. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assisting residents in taking their medications;
  • Performing counts of Narcotics to ensure that no medications are missing or documented incorrectly;
  • Taking and reporting resident’s vital signs;
  • Assisting residents with blood glucose and insulin;
  • Keeping medication stocked as necessary by sending medication orders to pharmacy, ordering refills from the pharmacy, requesting orders from physicians etc.;
  • Keeping medication cart clean and organized;
  • Keeping records, charting medications, and recording resident activities; 
  • Keeping work and resident areas safe, orderly and clear of obstacles;
  • Responding to call lights and coordinating with Caregivers;
  • Assisting Caregivers and kitchen staff with residents’ ADL’s including, but not limited to, grooming, hygiene, dressing, clothing cleanliness, perineal care, showering or bathing, nail care, shaving, eating, ambulating, turning and positioning residents, etc., which requires lifting up to 35 pounds;
  • Using therapies and techniques to prevent and improve resident behaviors;
  • Completing reports including dropped or missed medication reports as needed;
  • Must have regular, reliable, attendance in performance of essential job functions.

 

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Answering phones and greeting visitors;
  • May be required to train other team members on job responsibilities;
  • Assist other departments as needed, and performs related duties as required.

 

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED BY LEAD MEDICATION TECHNICIAN      

  • Representing facility leadership in the absence of Administrator, House Manager or Assistant Administrator;
  • May be assigned as the facility Safety Officer;
  • Filling in shifts as needed;

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or seventeen (17) with Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) certificate in Idaho. C.N.A. certificate preferred;
  • Certifications in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and medication assistance certificate (or state equivalent) required;
  • Knowledge of medications, drug reactions, and physician’s medication instructions;
  • Knowledge of all resident’s rights, including the right to be free of restraints and abuse;
  • Knowledge of therapies and techniques used to improve resident quality of life;
  • Knowledge and use of safe practices in medication assistance;
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including age, those with mental illness, memory loss diagnosis, and/or physical impairments, and aid in these resident’s ADL’s as needed;
  • Ability to handle emergency situations, power outage, medical emergency, fire, flood, etc;
  • Ability to schedule workload so meds are passed on time, residents are cared for, and the facility is clean and safe;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, residents, and families;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data at all times;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and to keep daily records.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a criminal background check;
  • This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing;
  • Complete ongoing monthly continuing education, following state specific requirements;
  • Punctuality and attendance at scheduled shifts.


ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling required;
  • Repeated hand and arm movements including typing and standing extended periods, bending, etc.
  • Frequent lifting or moving objects weighing up to thirty five (35) pounds unassisted.
