Position Summary

The Intern- Bioassay Automation will provide exciting learning opportunities in an industrial laboratory environment through hands-on training on bioanalytical assays such as cell-based and plate-based bioassays. The intern will be responsible for activities related to bioanalytical assay development, automation, and sample testing.

The intern will be based in RTP, North Carolina and will report to the Director of Bioanalysis at AskBio.

Job Responsibilities

• Become familiar with and understand the workflow of established bioassays including immunoassays, determine assay steps that are adaptable for automation

• Develop automated assay flow using appropriate automated liquid handling or pipetting platforms such as Hamilton or Andrew systems

  • Design automated protocols for assay steps, such as sample dilution, reagent preparation, and plate loading

  • Perform assay runs using automated protocols.

• Qualify the automatic assay protocol:

  • Perform multiple runs of assay on automatic protocol.

  • Determine assay performance parameters based on multiple runs of the automated protocols.

• Summarize and draft a study report for group presentation in a team meeting

• Support other lab activities as needed such as sample receiving and registration

Minimum Requirements

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or related field

• Must be at least a Junior in college at the time of your application

• Must have at least 6 months of prior experience in biology / biochemistry laboratory with routine functions such as pipetting, preparing buffers and solutions, maintaining lab safety etc

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

• Master’s students are encouraged to apply.

• Prior internship, work, or volunteer/extracurricular experience in biological research laboratories

• Proficient with MS Office Suite and ability to learn new technologies quickly.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Available to work full-time during the summer months (May-August)

• Proactive and solution-driven mindset

• Strong sense of accountability and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

• Flexible and willing to support a variety of tasks for the Bioanalysis & Bioassay team
