PRN Pay range for new hires: $40.90- $65.43 /hr

Job Overview:

The cardiopulmonary therapist will have expertise in both cardiac and pulmonary areas and may be registered nurse or an exercise physiologist. This role will integrate the components of clinician, teacher, consultant and researcher. Responsible for all behaviors in this job description. Accountable to the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Manager.

 

Primary Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Fully competent in primary role in Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation; performs patient and family assessment and problem identification, plans care accordingly, implements and evaluates plan of care so that problems are resolved.
  • Develops a problem-based plan of care for every patient with appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Records pertinent clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and hospital policy.
  • Prioritizes patient situations and takes appropriate action in an efficient, effective manner.
  • Responds to clinical needs of patients in accord with experience, clinical standards, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes and reports any significant participant conditions (dysrhythmia, abnormal blood pressure responses, change in participant’s status, etc.) to the primary or referring MD or Medical Director (if primary not available).
  • Demonstrates accurate cardiovascular physical assessment, including pain assessment, inspection, auscultation, skin color, and temperature.
  • Recognizes need for 12 Lead ECG and orders promptly. Faxes to primary MD, referring MD or Medical Director in order of availability.
  • Recognizes chest pain (angina) or equivalent in participant and responds appropriately, ie. stops exercise, sit down, evaluate CP (0-10 scale) administers Nitro SL (if pt carries it), takes BP, calls for 12 Lead ECG and refers to primary and/or referring MD or to ED if necessary
  • Provides individualized patient and family education consistent with patient’s learning style, readiness to learn and self-care needs
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient learning
  • Records pertinent clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and hospital policy.
  • Adheres to federal, state and hospital rules and regulations concerning HIPAA privacy and security.
  • Follows Hospital compliance plan and policies, including the Code of Conduct.
  • Identifies need to seek out additional information when needed and apply relevant findings to practice
  • Demonstrates purposeful service excellence through exceeding patient and co-worker expectations.
  • Represents the department and hospital as a dedicated, courteous and responsive employee.
  • Delivers care according to AACVPR and TJC standards of care; demonstrates accurate physical assessment; supervises sessions, monitors participants for inappropriate response to exercise.
  • Educates all Cardiac and Pulmonary Phase II participants using techniques consistent with principles of adult learning. Plans and initiates home exercise during this time period for participants.
  • Recognizes and reports any significant participant conditions to primary or referring MD or Medical Director.
  • Connects with each participant in a way that affirms personalized care and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Provides an environment of acceptance and care allowing for individual differences. Promotes behavioral changes.
  • Implements registration and charging process for all patients (Phase II and III) and monitors compliance.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Ability to concentrate and show attention to detail
  • Relatively high degree of analytical abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
  • Spanish preferred
  • Registered Nurse with current Colorado License (BSN preferred) or MS in Exercise Physiology within 90 days
  • 4-year Critical Care or Cardiac Rehab experience preferred
  • Current Colorado nursing license or temporary permit or MS in Exercise Physiology within 90 days
  • Current BLS certification
  • ACLS within 90 days
