An Information Technology Generalist is responsible for overall information systems planning, implementation and administrative procedures in a variety of IT functional areas1. They provide operational infrastructure support, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimum utilization of IT resources1. The job description may include tasks such as staying up to date on the latest releases of application relevant business knowledge, participating in software/hardware testing, tracking and updating documentation of technology assets, taking ownership of IT operations processes and procedures, and assisting the operations teams on projects.
From installing new software to monitoring network security, an IT generalist covers various tasks in a company IT department without specializing in any one area. Ideal candidates for this occupation are tech-savvy, love the challenges of repairing and updating computer systems, and are not afraid to take on many roles on a daily basis. Armed with a knowledge of many areas of computer technology, IT generalists often assume supervisory or leadership positions. Working as an IT generalist is typically a full-time job; they work in the IT departments of all industries.
Essential Functions:
- Perform all assigned duties safely.
- Actively monitor the organizations Enterprise systems.
- Assist support team - level 2 support ( Service Now ).
- Perform functions including resetting passwords, troubleshooting client software / hardware issues, and following senior team member instructions as necessary.
- Utilizing a wide range of tools to actively monitoring Wide Area Network connections, fax solutions, and telecommunications to all of the organization’s locations.
- Develop and maintain an IT Support Knowledge base that can be used to research historical information related to support tasks.
- Perform a trend analysis on historical support information to find ways for preventing future occurrences.
- Develop help sheets and frequently asked questions lists for IT users.
- Perform follow-up to ensure a high level of satisfaction.
- Work to meet service level agreements. Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding IT related problems.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting on servers, workstations, virtual machines and infrastructure.
- Coordinate activities with other IT resources as necessary to support end-user operations in a 24x7 environment.
- Good understanding of company security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
- Maintain IT Asset Inventory database for hardware and software.
- Assist in the development of annual goals and meet all training targets as specified in GPS.
- Work directly with the Divisional IT and Global IT to lead, coordinate, and implement key process improvements for all environments throughout the organization.
- Other reasonably related duties as assigned.
- Up to 15% travel.
- Hybrid role. Work from home up to 2 days a week based on business needs.
Other Job Responsibilities and Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift computer hardware and supplies up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
- On call availability as needed to support business operations.
- Willingness to travel as required.

Qualifications of Job:
- Associate’s degree in Computer Technologies and three to five years equivalent work experience.
- Experience working in a multi-tiered global IT environment.
- Willingness to pursue at least one (1) certification relevant to current systems environment.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting physical and/or virtual hardware for a variety of systems.
- Excellent working knowledge of communication protocols and standards
- Understanding of Web and Remote Technologies
- Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles.
- Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Able to conduct research into complex issues and products as required.
- Ability to follow instructions without deviation from established policies.
- Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language.
