Job Location:    Rainier Beach Community Center - Seattle, WA
Salary Range:    $26.87 Hourly

$600 HIRING BONUS!

A School-Age Care (SAC) Director is responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing all program offerings. The director is responsible for creating and supporting a fun, safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and participants. The director establishes and strengthens positive relationships and is the main point of contact for Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) staff, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff, parents, and participants. As an ARC employee, the SAC director takes pride in what they do for our neighborhoods and communities and are committed to staying true to ARCs mission, vision, and values.

Starting Pay Rate: $26.87 non-exempt with benefits. Range is based upon meeting the WAC (Washington Administrative Code) educational requirements.

Schedule:

  • Monday Friday up to 40 hours per week, straight shift
  • School-Year 2022: Program runs 8:00am - 6:00pm
  • Summer 2022: Program runs 7:30am - 6:00pm
  • Schedule subject to change (i.e. split shift) due to program/season and business needs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

LEADERSHIP

  • Mentor, train, and coach staff in the development and implementation of program
  • Collaborate with other directors within the organization to share resources and ideas
  • Manage program operations by communicating effectively with staff and holding them accountable to job-related responsibilities
  • Use critical thinking to problem-solve, trouble shoot and plan to minimize risk
  • Demonstrate and model desirable leadership qualities to reporting staff
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of high quality program offerings
  • Engage staff and participants in utilizing their voice to influence program offerings
  • Oversee and/or lead opening and closing procedures daily
  • Address behavior via positive reinforcement
  • Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth
  • Collaborate with SAC team members to ensure the success of participants
  • Communicate with SAC team members, families, community center staff, and Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Create program and snack plans
  • Conduct regular assessments, observations, and audits of programs, participants, and staff paperwork to be in compliance with Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) licensing and School-Age Program Quality Assessment (SAPQA) requirements
  • Frequently review and maintain staff and child files per DCYF requirements
  • Create staff schedules
  • Complete budget planning with area operations supervisor
  • Plan and lead staff trainings and meetings
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones with assistant directors, leads, and counselors
  • Communicate and collaborate often and effectively with our partners (SPR, SPS, licensors, all ARC departments and other organizations)
  • Conduct interviews
  • Partner with HR recruiting team to meet staffing needs
  • Responsible for maintaining workplace expectations and documentation (staff recognition, performance improvement needs/concerns)

SAFETY

  • Draft and finalize safety procedures
  • Schedule regular safety drills and disseminate corresponding responsibilities to reporting staff
  • Lead day-to-day program implementation
  • Initiate the Incident Response Plan
  • Utilize proper and timely reporting procedures, including CPS reporting, licensor and/or Public Health notification, and area operations supervisor notification

CARE & CUSTODY

  • Cultivate a safe and welcoming environment for all families, participants and staff
  • Conduct regular head counts and roll calls
  • Ensure environments are well-maintained, developmentally appropriate and supports the needs of the program and its participants
  • Provide positive transitions that maintain ratios/head counts to minimize the risk of unwanted behaviors
  • Supports other organization sites and programs as needed

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) program.
  • Knowledge of community services and resources.
  • Skill in providing feedback, instruction, and development guidance to help others excel in their current or future job responsibilities; plan and support the development of individual skills and abilities.
  • Skill in understanding diversity within and across cultures and provide an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment where all children, youth and families can take pride in their cultural identifies, beliefs, and practices. Understand and value differences.
  • Skill in establishing an environment that provides learning experiences that meet each participants needs, capabilities and interests.
  • Ability to collaborate and partner with families, schools and Seattle Parks and Recreation to meet the needs of participants.
  • Knowledge in maintaining an environment that supports the physical safety and emotional development of participants.
  • Ability to serve children and families in a professional manner and participate in the community as a representative of the child/youth development field.
  • Ability to actively participate as a member of a team that moves the team toward the completion of goals.

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of [45 college credits (or thirty college credits and one hundred fifty training hours)] in approved school-age credits as specified in the Washington state guidelines 110-305-1710.
  • BS/BA degree in a related field or equivalent combination of related experience and education may be substituted.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with school-age children.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
  • Documentation of current First-Aid/CPR certification, HIV/AIDS, blood-borne pathogens education and training, a valid Washington State Food Handlers permit, have cleared a TB test; 30 hours STARS training or documentation of exemption is highly preferred
  • Successful completion of a WA State and Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable Background Check (PBC) certificate.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Washington State Drivers license or Washington State ID Required

This is a full-time, year-round, benefited position. Hours will vary and may be scheduled between 7:30am to 6:00pm. Working split shifts may be required based on business/program need.
