Typical Shift: The typical schedule will include late afternoon and early evening hours Monday through Friday, with some daytime/weekend availability required for meetings or events. This role will start at approximately 10–12 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours over time based on fit and interest.
Job Overview
As a Connection Specialist, you’ll provide peer-based support to individuals of all ages navigating mental health and substance use challenges. The role includes a mix of direct support - such as facilitating 1:1 and group sessions - and behind-the-scenes coordination, including outreach, documentation, and light administrative support. While our current priority is increased support for teen girls, the focus of this role may shift over time in response to evolving community needs. Flexibility, strong communication, and a commitment to connection are key.
This position requires travel within a 125-mile radius, engaging participants in community settings such as schools, public spaces, and homes. Candidates must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, good driving record and proof of insurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate Community Engagement Activities – Lead group discussions, educational sessions, and skill-building workshops to foster resilience and connection.
- Provide Individualized Support – Assist participants in navigating resources, setting goals, and developing coping strategies.
- Customer Service & Administrative Support – Respond to participant inquiries, help coordinate program logistics, maintain schedules, and ensure accurate documentation.
- Promote Services & Build Awareness – Represent the organization at community events, network with partners, and help expand program outreach.
- Support Program Operations – Assist with data entry, record-keeping, and communication efforts to enhance service delivery.
- Build & Maintain Relationships – Develop trusting, professional relationships with participants, community organizations, and team members.
- Stay Updated on Best Practices – Continuously learn about effective peer support strategies, community-based resources, and engagement techniques.
Education & Experience (any of the following):
- Certification in peer support, recovery coaching, or a related support-based program
- Education in social work, psychology, human services, child/adolescent development, or a related field (current students welcome!)
- Professional experience providing mental health or substance use support - ideally with teens or young adults
- At least 5 years of experience working in a mentoring or care-based role
Skills & Personal Attributes:
- Lived experience with mental health, substance use, trauma, or related life challenges - this is foundational to the role
- A strong grasp of (or genuine interest in learning about) connection, community engagement, and harm reduction
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds
- Basic organizational skills, with the ability to keep accurate notes and follow through on tasks
- Cultural humility and a commitment to working with individuals from all walks of life
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to navigate change or shifting priorities
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, good driving record and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a caregiver background check and meet eligibility for contracted services.
