The Annex Teen Clinic provides sexual health care and education for young adults through age 25 in a friendly, non-judgmental, and comfortable atmosphere.  Our services are low-cost, medically accurate, and developmentally appropriate. A Typical Day in the Life…

A typical day as The Annex’s Health Mentor offers an opportunity to provide a range of sexuality education programming and serve as a resource and support for Robbinsdale Cooper High School around sexuality issues. The Health Mentor will largely work independently, and must collaborate to a high degree with school staff, district staff, community partners, and other Annex Teen Clinic staff, and will include the following:

  • Facilitating of sexuality education programs including evidence-based programs, classroom presentations, in school and out of school time small groups, parent education workshops, and outreach events on a range of sexuality topics.
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing educational programs and materials that support students’ ability to take charge of their sexual health and fosters healthy sexuality and relationships at the school and in the community.
  • Providing one-to-one education, support, and developmentally appropriate information to young people who are seeking guidance, resources, and mentoring on topics such as relationships, sex, sexual health, and accessing health care.
  • Recruiting and facilitating a youth leadership council and other small groups as needed.
  • Collaborating with school staff and administration to ensure all health mentor services are confidential, culturally relevant, easily accessible, and supported across the school.
  • Conducting outreach to raise awareness of health mentor and Annex Teen Clinic services.
  • Collaborating with school staff to create and implement a student referral system.
  • Building productive relationships and collaborating with Annex staff, school district staff, and community organizations on programming and services.
  • Creating, writing, editing, and presenting a variety of materials for general and specialized audiences.
  • Providing leadership in advancing sexuality education programs, safe and supportive schools, and policies that support young people’s sexual and reproductive health in the school and community.
  • Collecting and reporting data regularly including monthly reports, data collection into an online database, and participant forms.
  • Participating in working groups, task forces, and other groups with the Annex Teen Clinic, school, community partners, and Hennepin County as appropriate.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development to ensure services are culturally relevant, trauma-informed, inclusive, accessible, and using the most current information available.
  • Managing programming independently with limited supervision.

 

Who You Are

  • You hold a college degree in education, youth development, human services, or related field; and two years of experience working with adolescents preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • You can demonstrate having experience providing fact-based sexuality education (preferred).
  • You have experience recruiting and running engaging youth groups (preferred).
  • You have experience planning, organizing, coordinating and staffing for promotional efforts at community events and health fairs (preferred).
  • You are skilled in planning, prioritizing, and monitoring of work plans.
  • You can demonstrate your ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • You have experience with public speaking, facilitation and writing skills.
  • You are highly motivated, self-directed, outgoing, organized, and excited to work on a team.
  • You are skilled at engaging and building relationships with youth, parents, and community members.
  • Your schedule is flexible; some evening and weekend hours are required.
  • You are passionate about sexuality education and working with young people from diverse communities.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Annex Teen Clinic’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state and working remotely).

COVID-19 Protocols: Annex Teen Clinic strongly encourages employees to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and does not require any employee to be vaccinated.  When Annex Teen Clinic work locations are not in areas identified as high community transmission for flu and/or COVID-19, employees are not required to wear a mask while working. We will monitor updates on community transmission rates for both flu and COVID-19 and update our guidelines as necessary.
