What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Learning Specialist position at Atlantic Street Center?

Beginning October 1, 2022 Early Learning Specialists work 5 hours/day M-F during the 25 weeks each year that schools are in session. There is no work during school vacation times or holidays. You will drive your own vehicle to visit families in South King and Pierce Counties twice a week for 30 minutes each visit, bringing an educational board book. Currently, all visits are happening remotely by Zoom or phone call. Our office is in Kent.

· Model for the parent appropriate ways to verbally interact with the child using the educational toy or book.

· Create an environment in which the parent feels comfortable and supported in participating.

· Monitor families’ progress in a pro-active and comprehensive manner.

· Learn techniques for using the toys and books to increase verbal interaction between the parent and the child.

· Maintain the privacy of all families assigned, and show good judgment in the discussion of sensitive family issues at staff meetings and personal conferences with the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

· One year of experience working with young children

· Computer skills for recording visits and documenting activities

· Experience working special needs and medically fragile children

· Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills. We are looking for people who are nonjudgmental, objective and reflective.
