The Special Education Paraprofessional plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs within the educational environment. Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Support students in daily classroom activities, ensuring they remain engaged and focused on their learning tasks.
- Help manage classroom behavior by employing effective behavior management strategies.
- Collaborate with educators to adapt curriculum materials and develop individualized learning strategies.
- Provide support for students during assessments, ensuring they understand instructions and can demonstrate their knowledge.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents regarding student progress and challenges.
- Assist in the development and implementation of IEP goals, tracking student progress toward these objectives.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation.
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or other special needs.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language is a plus for effective communication with deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
- Strong background in early childhood education, childhood development, or related fields.
- Classroom management skills to maintain an orderly learning environment.
- Ability to develop engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles.
- Familiarity with literacy education, math concepts, and curriculum development for special education settings.
- Experience in private school environments or Montessori methods is beneficial.
