Transportation: Local travel within Lee County required; mileage reimbursed at $0.50/mile
Funding: Position funded by a 1-year federal grant with potential for an additional 1-year extension
Position Summary:
The Outreach Specialist will serve as a key connector between individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability and the services offered by the Good News Rapid Re-Housing ministry. This role combines outreach, intake, and landlord engagement responsibilities to ensure equitable access to housing resources. The Outreach Specialist will engage with clients in the community, conduct eligibility screenings, and support warm handoffs to housing and supportive services, all while upholding trauma-informed, client-centered practices. The Good News Center is Auburn UMC’s place for whole-life compassionate care with all that offers a weekly food pantry & clothes closet ministry along with a monthly rent/utility assistance ministry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Community Outreach & Engagement
- Build trust with hard-to-reach populations using trauma-informed and culturally responsive engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with local partners (e.g., churches, schools, hospitals, law enforcement) to identify and refer potential clients.
- Develop relationships with local landlords and property management companies through regular communication and informational events.
2. Intake, Assessment & Eligibility
- Conduct initial screenings and assessments to determine eligibility for Rapid Re-Housing services.
- Assist clients in gathering necessary documentation (e.g., ID, income verification, homelessness status).
- Clearly explain program options.
3. Housing Search and Navigation
- Create and maintain a database of available and affordable housing units including specific leasing requirements.
- Coordinate with GNRRH Case Manager and landlords to ensure smooth transitions into housing.
- Provide transportation assistance or mobile enrollment support to overcome geographic barriers.
4. Data Collection & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of outreach encounters, assessments, and referrals using a HUD-compliant database.
- Support data collection for grant reporting, including housing placements and service outcomes.
5. Client Advocacy & Support
- Uphold Housing First principles by offering low-barrier, voluntary services.
- Advocate for client needs across systems and support informed decision-making.
6. Team Collaboration and Continuous Improvement:
- Actively participate in team meetings.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training on best practices.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- Marketing, communications, or event planning experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Lee County rental and/or real estate market preferred.
- Commitment to Housing First, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered approaches.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and advocacy skills.
- Strong attention to detail with data entry and documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, web-based applications, and basic database systems.

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within Lee County.
