Responsibilities of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA):
The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is responsible for the continuous improvement of total quality care as it relates to providing nurse aide services to facilities requiring the services of a Nurse Aide. In addition, the QMA will:
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and facility policies under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Supervise caregivers and respond to situations based on QMA nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol
- Report on the condition of patients to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members
- Perform tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge and local, state and federal guidelines and the policies of the facility

Requirements
Requirements of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA):
- Graduate of a state-approved training class for Nurse’s Aides
- Completion of or enrollment in a state-approved Qualified Medication Aide course
- Qualified Medication Aide Certification from the State of Indiana or in process
- Able to organize and complete work in a timely manner
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position: stooping, turning, bending, squatting, kneeling and lifting up to 50 pounds
