Position Title: Instructional Designer

Position Type: Full-Time

Department: Graduate Education

The Graduate Education Office at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applicants for a full-time Instructional Designer position beginning August 2022. The classification for this 12-month position is Administrator with Faculty Status. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: The Instructional Designer will primarily collaborate with content experts to design, develop, evaluate, and revise instructional content, courses and curriculum for predominantly online and hybrid courses that are part of degree and certificate offerings. While the position reports to the Director of Graduate and Continuing Education, the Instructional Designer would also be expected to collaborate with others in IT and from the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to provide faculty development. This person will also be required to manage and track progress on multiple design projects and keep projects within budget, resource, and time parameters. The person may have opportunities to teach, depending on institutional priorities and need as well as individual interest and/or expertise.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in instructional design, and significant online teaching experience in higher education. Evidence of collaborating with others to develop effective hybrid and online learning courses or programs that meet industry and/or accreditation standards. Candidate must have knowledge of learning management systems and emerging tools as related to teaching and learning. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential.

OR

A combination of a master's or doctoral degree in a closely related field; Instructional Designer certification from a reputable, industry-accepted organization with a recognized high-quality program, such as Online Learning Consortium, Quality Matters, etc., AND significant online teaching experience in higher education. Evidence of collaborating with others to develop effective hybrid and online learning courses or programs that meet industry and/or accreditation standards. Candidate must have knowledge of learning management systems and emerging tools as related to teaching and learning. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential.

Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
