The Commercial Lending Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the full lifecycle of commercial loans, from initial application through post-closing. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to member service and regulatory compliance.
What You'll Do
- Provide administrative support to the Commercial Lending Department, including organizing and maintaining loan files
- Assist borrowers with loan and credit applications, ensuring all required documentation is complete
- Review loan application packages for accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate loan closings with attorneys, appraisers, and other professionals
- Order and track reports such as credit reports, flood certificates, environmental assessments, title work, and appraisals
- Prepare loan documents and conduct pre-closing reviews for accuracy and compliance
- Partner with title companies and internal teams to ensure timely documentation
- Verify post-closing documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Perform loan booking setup and data entry
- Prepare and send past-due letters, collection notices, and payment coupons
- Provide responsive customer support and resolve loan inquiries
- Educate members on loan products and services
- Maintain organized and accurate loan files
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance operational workflows
- Handle customer complaints and escalate issues as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace
- Complete annual compliance training
- Adhere to credit union policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in loan processing or related fields (e.g., financial services, legal support, real estate)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work with internal and external partners
- Experience in commercial lending or financial institutions
- Familiarity with loan documentation and compliance requirements
