Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Tualatin, Oregon

Department: Design/Engineering

Reports To: Operations Manager

Position Type: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $60,000-$70,000

As part of this growth, we are looking for a Design Engineer to join our team.

Position Summary:

As a Design Engineer, you will collaborate closely with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to develop new product designs and ensure seamless integration with manufacturing processes. You will create technical drawings, accurate 3D models, and product specifications while assisting with purchasing and materials coordination. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background, proficiency in CAD design, and experience in process engineering. This role offers growth opportunities as you develop within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Product Development:

  • Create detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and product specifications using CAD software (Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Develop designs for aluminum frames, windows, and glass products, ensuring functionality, aesthetics, and manufacturability
  • Optimize designs based on feedback from engineering and production teams to streamline manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate effectively with others and establish yourself as a skilled technical resource
  • Improve existing systems and expand product offerings

Process Engineering & Optimization:

  • Apply knowledge of process engineering to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements
  • Assist in developing and refining production workflows, ensuring efficiency and quality control

Education:

Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)

Experience (Nice To Have):

  • 0-5 years of experience in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience in taking products from prototype to production
  • Proficiency in CAD software (Inventor, AutoCAD, Rhino, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and product design for manufacturing (DfMA)
  • Experience or knowledge of process engineering and identifying efficiencies in manufacturing processes

Skills:

  • Ability to wear multiple hats and delegate as needed
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in a design context
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
  • Desirable But Not Required:
  • Experience in custom die design & profile tolerances/ratios
  • Experience in FEA and computational simulation
  • Familiarity with programming or developing automation tools (Grasshopper, Python, or C#)
