1. Position
- Visual Inspector

2. Job Summary
- The Visual Inspector conducts quality visual inspection and takes measurements of pipe products.
3. Immediate Supervisor
- This position reports directly to the Shift Supervisor
4. Standards
- Provide exceptional customer service to all customers, suppliers, and employees.
- Constantly represent Axis Pipe and Tube in a positive and professional manner regardless of customer requests, complaints, or demeanor.
- Comply with Axis’s policies and procedures.
- Interact with other employees in a courteous and professional manner.
- Communicating all matters relating to the work being undertaken and any significant issues to the supervisor.
5. Responsibilities
- Maintains a record of all activities on the Final Inspector report form.
- Is responsible for determining a products acceptability under API 5L and 5CT specifications or customer or other pertinent specifications.
- Reports to supervisor or mill supervisor of any continuing imperfections so that immediate correction may be taken.
- Uses portable ultrasonic tester to examine the last four inches (4”) of each end when required by specification.
- Examines and inspects imperfections in longitudinal welds both inside and outside seam.
- Visually examines pipe for imperfections in the pipe body and weld.
- Measures and examines the bevel and face of both ends for compliance with specifications.
- Marks pipe for cut-off or repair.
- Test characteristics of materials or structures
- Prepare detailed work plans
- Determines if pipe is rejected (unsuitable for the current specification) due to imperfections which exceed those specified by Customer or specification.
- Probes steel imperfections with grinder or file to determine depth and length.
- Measures OD of pipe, wall and weld thickness with micrometer or electronic ultrasonic thickness gauge, weld flash height, measures straightness (using taut line) and length of pipe and enters the results into ME and form F-041 Wall Diameter Report.
- Examines weld for off plate or off seam conditions. · Records all non-conformances on daily inspection report.
6. Qualifications
- High School Diploma, OR Equivalency Certificate, (GED, etc.)
- One to three months equivalent experience in related field OR, Proof of training in an area related to the job assignment
- Reasonable knowledge in hand-held measuring devices, micrometers, measuring tapes, go/no-go gauges, grinding, operation of thickness gauges and depth gauges
- Moderate to Advanced PC Skills in Microsoft Applications, i.e., MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to follow job and safety requirements.
7. Working Conditions
- This position requires frequent communication, both written and oral.
- The work environment for this position is primarily in a manufacturing plant with loud noise from heavy machinery, grease, and dirt.
- There may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extreme cold and heat, handling hazardous chemicals, bad odors, dirt, and dust.
- Workers will be required to sit or stand for long periods of time, walk long distances and work in confined spaces.
- Work might involve pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy materials.
- Position requires the use of personal protective equipment.
8. Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
- The employee frequently is required to climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
