Maintenance and Construction Projects
Burnsville, NC, USA | Full-Time Position
At B.A. McCurry Engineering, we are looking for motivated and skilled individuals to join our Engineering Inspection team as Transportation Inspectors (all levels, from Tech I to Level IV). This role is based in Division 13 (Buncombe, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Burke, McDowell, or Rutherford Counties) and focuses on supporting highway maintenance and construction projects across western North Carolina.

Responsibilities:
- Inspect roadways and structures under maintenance or construction.
- Conduct materials sampling, testing, and record-keeping to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Monitor contractor activities, prepare daily project logs, and draft monthly project estimates.
- Perform field measurements of completed work and calculate pay quantities.
- Interpret roadway and structure plans and specifications.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, with the ability to apply formulas.
- Proficiency in Android or iOS use, Microsoft Office, and file-sharing platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and walk over rough terrain.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfort working in confined spaces, heights, and challenging environments.
Experience Levels:
- Trainees: Entry-level candidates with a willingness to learn.
- Level II: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. Can perform duties independently and access reference materials for inspection requirements.
- Level III: Minimum of 5 years of experience. Works independently and interprets complex inspection needs.
- Level IV: Minimum of 7 years of experience. Leads project oversight, supervises lower-level technicians, and ensures communication with contractors and NCDOT.

The pay range for this role is:
22.18 - 31.04 USD per hour(Tech I)
24.41 - 34.15 USD per hour(Tech II)
25.80 - 37.56 USD per hour(Tech III)
28.41 - 42.50 USD per hour(Tech IV)
31.74 - 47.60 USD per hour(Tech V)
