General Function:
The Transportation Technician position will be required to carry out assigned tasks without direct supervision and at times to assist the Support Services Manager with his tasks/duties. The Transportation Technician position must maintain approved driving privileges with Babcock Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Transportation Coordinator in all phases of vehicle fleet management.
- Perform vehicle relocation due to break-downs, towing, vehicle servicing, etc.
- Assist in vehicle accidents and compiling information related to the accident.
- Perform vehicle maintenance and safety inspections and document accurately.
- Work closely with SC State Fleet Management regarding issues with our leased vehicle fleet.
- Complete vehicle work request/orders and follow through with the Transportation Administration Assistant to completion.
- Perform other duties associated with the Transportation Department, as assigned.
- Responsible for adhering to Babcock Center published procedures and policies.
Typical Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, frequent lifting and manual dexterity sufficient to perform duties associated with the position of Transportation Technician. Must have normal range of hearing and vision.
Typical Mental Demands:
Must be able to deal with stress associated with a fast-paced work environment and multi-tasking. Adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels. Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information.
Hazards/Potential Hazards:
Climbing, cold/heat stress, compressed gases, confined spaces, cylinder storage, electrical, ergonomic hazards, lifting, pulling, flammable liquids, hazardous waste, noise, steam, tools, machinery, toxic/hazardous substance :
Carbon monoxide, adhesives/paints, refrigerants, solvents, water treatment chemicals, welding fumes.
Qualifications:
The Transportation Technician position requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid South Carolina drivers license with a good driving record. The position requires a basic knowledge of minor vehicle maintenance. The position requires the ability to perform vehicle maintenance and safety inspections and complete required documentation accurately. The position requires solid organizational, communication and documentation skills. Must possess the willingness and ability to cooperate with staff and management at all Babcock Center facilities including all Contractors.
